Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She became a Washington general reporter with NBC News two years later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. In 1992, she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax reform and the budget and also the issue of arms control. She traveled extensively together with President Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
